Thankful Thursday

I awoke this morning feeling a little......lost. With a day filled with lists of things to get done, errands to do, and places to go--you may ask--"You know what you must do, where you must go, why lost?"

After being a SAHM for more than 25 years, my youngest is now 15 years old and in 9th grade. My husband's career continues to bless, my daughter's marriage and career have left the gate with gusto, and my MIP continues to show real signs of miracles in progress. Of course, my 9th grade son has a full life of his own growing independence and I am feeling just a little dusty from the stream of exits as I remain home trying to find a new place of my own in this wonderful place I call home.

What I have been doing for a quarter of a century--is no longer required.

It's an early retirement of sorts!

For the sake of brevity, while trying not to overstate, how does one spend her entire adult life rearing thriving children, maintaining a healthy and happy marriage, caring for ailing parents and lose herself in the process?

Still, I know I am not really lost! Just clicking over to Iris's site this morning to sign Mr. Linky for today's Thankful Thursday, I was reminded of the many blessings that hold me together! No matter where I find myself today--no matter what I do today-"this is the day that the Lord has made!" He knows my day, my every day, "they are written in His book!"

Rejoice and be glad!

Today, although I am feeling a little unsure about the direction I am heading, I will be thankful for.....

My family--the family, that as a child, I never could have imagined! I was the rebellious teenager, who based on life's experiences, was determined to never have children! I am so glad that God 'wrote' my husband and my children into my life...into my heart!

For options. Although the road is wide, the path is direct! What a great time we live in. We have so many options and while they sometimes cloud our vision and may even distract, when we surrender our way to God, He uses each one to bring us in line with His great purpose for our life!

For miracles! I am so thankful today for Heather's return home from Mayo where they removed, successfully, a brain tumor. In fact, Heather's testimony continues to be a miracle in progress. Please continue to pray for her as she now faces the necessity of chemotherapy and radiation.

For blogging friends. Seriously, my mood changed dramatically as I read from other Thankful Thursday posts. We are not limited to our feelings; even when we feel lost, feel sad, feel afraid, we are able to rewrite our emotions as we take refuge and BE glad..."But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you." Psalm 5:11

I am thankful that even when I feel lost, I know where to run!

How about you? What are you thankful for today?

What a wonderful list! I, too, am so thankful for my wonderful family. They have taken such good care of me this past year without complaints~ever. I am thankful that I have a scheduled date to get one of my hips replaced!! And very thankful for Heather's coming home and her testimony. What a blessing and encouragement she has been to all of the blogging community. God is good!

oh thanks for the news on Heather, I've been out of the loop for a week or so it's good to know things are looking up.
My eldest is at the stage you mention, but his younger brother still has a few years to go.

I SO agree!! Thankful Thursday is a wonderful ministry that lifts my spirit and my focus to Jesus. Life can get so cluttered and overwhelming at times. I am so glad God has placed "sisters" in my path that help me to fix my eyes on Him.
Love and Prayers,
Susanne

I'm new to your site the last few days but glad I found you. As one who walked through the stage you're at quite a few years ago I want to just tell you how full, rich and wonderful my life is today. Broader, more involved and loving every minute of it. He will lead and direct you. "My sheep hear my voice and no other voice do they hear."

I'm thankful for you saying this...

"We have so many options and while they sometimes cloud our vision and may even distract, when we surrender our way to God, He uses each one to bring us in line with His great purpose for our life!"

That is really a wonderful list. I know how you are feeling. On the positive side, it is just a change of "season" for us. God will have something special for you to do. And it will be just exactly made to fit you!

Thanks for sharing today! I am in agreement with you how uplifting it is to read other TT posts! I am swimming the waters of a nest that is in the process of emptying as well!

Great list. I'm thankful for my children, my mommy, my extended family, the sunny and warm weather, a great place to work, etc.

I really enjoyed reading your list. I know what you mean about losing yourself. After finishing homeschooling with my daughter (who is my only child), and a hubby who had to retire early due to a third back surgery, I had to stop and think about me a little.

God will help you find your direction. Trust Him.

Oh, Diane what a beautiful, beautiful post. All I can say - Amen to that. I know we loose ourselves in identities and than have to figure out 'where we belong'. One thing is for sure though -- we belong to Him and He will guide and direct us in our future steps; we just have to listen to Him and open our hearts to the things He has in mind for us...I totally know what you are talking about--I am with you.

Thank you for the up-date on Heather :)...

Thank you so much for sharing your thankfulness with us this week.

Be blessed today and always.

I'm so behind this week! I know that you will find exactly what you are supposed to do with your time, now that your kids are almost gone. I'm so glad things are going better with Curt! And with your hands.

Love the meme. I've been tagged for two, one with 8 things and one with 7. I think I'll have to combine them, because I don't think I can come up with 15!

Well I read this on a rainy, emotional Friday...and now I'm crying again.

I'm thankful for Godly blogging friends who keep pointing me toward God's goodness and provision (and making me cry).

He IS good. He is ALWAYS good and He is in control - no matter how I feel.

Stopping over from the scavenger hunt to say hi. I love your Thankful list! It's hard when you feel your not needed as much, but that only means that you've done your job, and you've done it well. Good luck with all your options and with finding the new you.
I'm thankful for my wonderful family :) Happy Mothers Day!

Kev and I finally finished Part 8.
