I grew up the oldest of five children. Frequently, it was my role to watch over my little sisters. These are my two little sisters; Lynn is on the left, Dixie is on the right. I am not in the picture, because I am doing what I love best, laying in the cabana, listening to the rhythym of the ocean waves, reading my favorite book. So relaxed, nearly asleep, I was awakened from my half-asleep-bliss, not by the cry of the Seagulls, not by the sound of the crashing waves, but by the sound of my name, "Diane! Diane! Diane!" "She.........(tattle, tattle, tattle!)" (Sorry, blogging friends, I can't share the details....for the details of this crime fall into the category of "What happens on Marco Island, stays on Marco Island!)

Can you guess which one is coming to "tattle" and which one is hiding that something to be "tattled" about?????

Some things, just never change! ;)

That was also my role in life - eldest of 5. What a neat picture! And what a wonderful word picture - you lying there with your favorite book. Sounds as close to heaven on earth as we're gonna get!

I'm going to guess Dixie is doing the tattling? :-)

I am also the oldest of 5. The youngest turns 19 next month.

No, I am not that young... there are A LOT of years between us! :-)

Oldest of six here and only eight years difference between me and the youngest.

My word, what a dream trip. I'm drooling over the photos in this post and the one before it.

It sounds to me like this trip is even more wonderful than you imagined it would be. I'm not sure who the "tattler" is. I just think it's funny that we never really outgrow our roles. I'm the oldest too. I'm trying not to be my usual "bossy" self now that we're all grownups, but -you know - someone's got to be the leader!!
Have a wonderful time.

Don't know. If I could do a blowup on the faces, it might be obvious. The smiling on doing the tattling and the upset one with something to hide.

Say...when are you going to get your pic up on the faith site?

OMG! This is so funny! I love the..."What happens on Marco Island Stays on Marco Island"...way too funny!! Glad you've had a good time!!

I'm detecting a pattern here - eldest adult children bonding with other eldest adult children - because we have so much in common??

Hello Bloggers!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Dixie Sanborn, sister to your blogger friend Diane Viere (I love her to death).

I have to tell you just how much fun we did have on this Marco Island Girls Weekend - but let me start out by saying, "it's not easy being the one to keep criminal activities out of a girls weekend." : )

Diane may be the oldest of 5 siblings, but being number 4 of 5, and having been raised by Diane and her husband Gordy, much of her was instilled in me (thank God).

I would have to say that the "Diane" in me comes out when I know we may be walking the "grey line". The Diane in me shows when I say things like "we could go to jail for this" or "think about what could happen if we go up the entire 1750 feet up in the air tied by a rope to the back end of a running boat (with a running motor) - in an ocean full of sharks, fish, seaweed, and turtles?" Oh my gosh, my heart still skips a beat when I think about it. I guess someone has to think about the consequences of our actions - right? Or is it that I just talk myself out of having fun?

Well, as it turns out we didn't go to jail and I didn't talk myself (or anyone else) out of having fun.

We had a dream vacation that couldn't have turned out better even if we had planned it. We experienced one of those times when you don't expect too much, yet end up having the time of your life. This will be a life long memory that brings a smile to my face every time I think of the talks we shared till 2am, eating, the "laughing till your face hurts" laughs, eating, story telling, eating, shell picking, eating, "Shark Bites", and the heart felt tears we shared.

I'm not a writer, nor a blogger - in fact this is my first time ever to write on a blog site. Amazing how technology works - I still don't understand how a TV or telephone work - transmitting all that data?!?! WOW. Must be similar to "Willie Wanka and the Chocolate Factory" when the boy shrinks and all those little pieces of him are floating in the air before he becomes whole again. That's how voice and pictures travel from one place to the next in my mind.

Okay - so hear's the big ending...

I love you Diane for all that you are and all that you have instilled in me. You are a blessing to me and as I've always told you...

"You are the wind beneath my wings"

Your little sister - Dixie xoxo

Thanks for sharing, it is so neat as we grow older how much closer we become to our siblings.

I was an only child, so I had to tattle on myself.
