WORKS FOR ME WEDNESDAY
I have strayed a bit, actually, I slept through Wednesday's with Beth! It has been an interesting few days at my house! My son, our prodigal, has returned to Minneapolis from Orlando and is living at home. This is not a banquet-homecoming, still, it is one more step in his journey to the celebration! Long-story short: it was important for him to leave Orlando. I will post, maybe, someday about it. He is currently experiencing a mood disorder manic. His mind is racing, he cannot sleep. The good news is--he is not self-medicating. PTL! However, to cope, his dad and I are pacing with him both day and night. He was up until 5:00 a.m. this morning avoiding a panic attack and since we all went to sleep at 5:00 a.m.--I slept right through the 7:30 a.m. Wednesday's with Beth. But not to fear, I have ordered the tapes (DVD's), so when I have time to view today's message, I'll get back to 'ya!
This glitch has given me the opportunity to post on another favorite Wednesday item: Works for Me Wednesday's! It seems that when I am blog-surfing, there is a familiar theme in blogdom: Mommies with migraines. I have suffered from migraines since I was 15 years old. There have been times in my life that they have been a mere nuisance, more times that they are simply disabling. I think it is safe to say, I have spent hours sitting in Dr.'s offices, going through a battery of tests, and innumerable medications before I found something that works for me.
It must be said here: This is not an over-the-counter drug, please see your doctor to discuss whether or not you are able to take Imitrex, or if it is even the right medication for you. There are side effects, and you shouldn't take it if you have heart disease, are pregnant, have high blood pressure,...... you know the drill!
I point this out to simply say, for migraine sufferers, you can find help. There is no reason to spend up to 3 days in a dark room suffering. I used to believe that this was my thorn, and perhaps it is. However, I now believe that God has graced me with something that will help me endure; more than endure, thrive in spite of the thorn.
If you experience migraines and have not seen a Dr.--GO! There are so many new medications (these are not pain relievers--these abort the headache by releasing the bodies natural pain "soldiers")! Just as migraines are relentless, so must the migraine sufferer be relentless in advocating for themselves. It is my heartfelt prayer that you will find the right medication that works for you this Wednesday (and any day that ends in a Y!)

Praying for your son and praying that this time will draw him closer to the Lord!
I agree about your advice on the headaches. If you have a problem with them, you should definitely find out why.
I had brain surgery last year for something that had been causing me headaches all of my life. It was a birth defect. My dad has the same surgery this year. Quality of life is so different. Definitely well worth it!
Oh, Diane, I wish I was going to be home to watch "Wednesdays with Beth" since you missed it. I have a dentist appointment that will run into it (it comes on at 1pm here). Be sure to let us know once you get the tape and watch it!
Like Heather, I'm praying this time will be a healing time for your son and your whole family.
I have lupus and often endure a migraine. I've always suffered through with advil....someone told me once that the prescription meds can make you nervous. After reading your testimonial I might just ask my rheumy at my next appt!
I finally found Beth on my schedule (thanks to somebody's link on their blog). I've been looking for something with her name on it. But I finally discovered she's only on Wednesdays on Life Today, I believe it is. Anyway, I set up the tape in the VCR, went down to get the kiddoes for the day, came back ready to watch it - NOTHING!! So I looked at my set-up - typical of my messing up videos (ask my kids), I set it for PM, not AM. Now I am taping it again, because fortunately this program is on about 6 times a week around here.
Sounds like you needed the sleep!! I am glad your son is not trying to solve his problem on his own in the self-destructive pattern of the past.
Oh sweet lady, I am so happy that you have found a remedy for your migraines. I sometimes get them, but they do not warrant medicine, especially when I know I get them from lack of sleep and not eating as well as I should.
Thanks for sharing this info with the rest of us. I'm sure it will be a great help to those with the same pain.
I thank GOD that you show us what it means to be a parent...a parent for life! It is making such a huge difference in your Prodigal's life, and whenever you doubt that...just look at how far he's come! Blessings and prayers.
Praise the Lord for progress! I will keep your son and your family in my prayers. God bless you for ministering to others through your trials.
I hope your son is doing alright back at home! What a great mom and dad he has to stay up all night pacing with him like that!!
My husband and son both get migraines. I'll let them know about Imitrex! :-)
Hi Diane,
Am praying for you, your hubby and your son, big time!!
I get cluster migraines...here's a weird one. In October 1990 I was thrown from a horse and hit my head on pavement. Within minutes, I developed exceedingly excruciating migraine symptoms, including visual aura, left side numbness, etc. so was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a grade 3 concussion. Every October since then, I get about a week or so worth of the same thing. Is that weird or what! But last October it didn't happen, so I'm thanking God.
yay for imitrex!
I am glad that your son is home with you and is seeking your support. That is a great first step...
Regarding your migranes - I am sorry you have to suffer with that, but glad to hear that you have found something that works for you.
