A RACER update

For all of you cat lovers out in blogdom....Racer has arrived safely in Orlando and is enjoying his new home with our son.

While the cat arrived safely, I'm not sure my husband will ever be the same! For this farm boy--flying with a cat was on his list of "things that will NEVER be required of me EVER in my lifetime!" The Vet gave us some medication that guaranteed a calm flight for Racer and hubby. No--hubby did not take the sedative, although, I think that would have worked out better! Two hours after having the medication jammed down his throat, Racer was still yowling throughout the airport. For my hubby, this was a near death experience! No--he never would have harmed the cat--he would have preferred to just have a silent heart attack from the anxiety of it all!

After several phone calls to me (I was in Orlando--remember, cat couldn't fly during day time hours due to temp's being over 85 degrees????!!!!???) telling me in a not-so-sweet-tone, "This is never gonna work!" to which I replied, "You can do this! I know you can--my-big-hunk-a-hunk-of-burnin'-love!" My sweet talk must have worked, 'cuz hubby boarded the airplane with Racer. After putting the kennel under the seat in front of him, he placed the towel over the kennel and the wild animal.......went to sleep. Hubby sweated bullets the entire 3 hours and 26 minute flight--but was smiling as he approached us at the baggage claim area and cat and son were reunited.

I've never been a big believer that cats bond with their owners, but let me just say--Racer seemed more calm with our son than he had the entire month he stayed at our home. Racer is thrilled with his new Florida diggs! And I am thrilled to have him there! Hubby is still recovering from the trauma of it all......and yes......my sweet talk will continue for a little while longer. It's the least I can do--until the nightmares end anyway!

LOL!!! At least your husband did all this for the cat and for y'all's son. My husband would have let us keep the cat or tell my son "too bad too sad". My husband would NEVER fly an animal to any of our children. I would...but I've never flown so the first experience I would have flying would not be taking a nervous animal anywhere. I'm glad that the cat is happy back with your son. I'm a firm believer in cats and dogs making bonds with their owners. They know who their owners are and they aren't as happy with anyone else as they are with their owner. I'm glad all worked out well for hubby and cat. I'm sure your hubby will be fine after the trauma of the trip wears off....LOL!!

Ohhhh, I'm gonna miss Racer stories... I'm glad your son was reunited and they are in the "pet happily ever after..." phase!

I missed your writing while you were gone and checked in regularly to keep out any vandals!

Thanks for being such a source of Godly encouragement. Your spirit amazes me!

Hi Julia,

Your question is a good one. It happened like this:

The day that Curt packed his car full of his things--he planned to take Racer with him. However, we did not think he would be such a bad traveler. He went craz-z-z-zy in the car. The few miles that Curt drove to come over here to say good-bye---Racer had nearly torn the kennel apart and lost all of his hair! Since Curt was on a schedule--we didn't have time to see the Vet. So I lovingly suggested--that I would just fly down with Racer when I came to visit him.

That was before the airlines told me there were temperature restrictions for flying animals in pet cargo. Because I was flying alone and bringing some of Curt's things with me--I didn't think I had room for the cat. Hence--it fell on my husband.

Hind-site.....Curt should have gone to the Vet...and gotten a two day supply of sedatives for the cat. IF the Vet would have done that. Anyway--Racer's there!

I'm glad Racer and son are reunited at last. Son and Racer both are very grateful to Dad, I'm sure. ;-)

Happy Mother's Day, Diane!!

That's a brave, brave man. I'd take a cranky toddler over a cat any day.

Off subject post. Sorry in advance to everyone. Diane, I just caught your post in my blog. I forgot about the Diane and Diane J thing. I commented back on the post and hopefully straighted things out. I apologize.

Hi Diane,
I'm relieved to hear that Racer and your son have been reunited!
Thanks for your comment on my new blog - I recommend M:I 3 if you love action films (I managed to completely erase my mind of TC's 'weird' stuff.)
Catch you again soon.
Sue :-)

Dogs have owners, cats have a staff. Nice that Racer's staff was so accomodating to all his needs!! We love our daughter's cat, Biscuit. B seems a lot happier with us and has accepted that her mother visits her only occassionally.

It is MY bra that she looks for to curl up and sleep in every night! So I have fuzzy chest in the morning. . .
