I remember when the parents of the Columbine attack were attacked themselves, thinking they probably should have known that those things were in their boys' bedrooms. I at the same time remembered knowing intellectually that Kev was growing pot in his room, but not wanting to know in reality by going in there to see it. Even though I knew we would be legally liable if it were found by the police.
